“etúHOME was founded on the belief that the utilitarian pieces used to prepare, serve and store food in, matters. Our collection reflects this lifestyle, inspired by classically rooted European designs, time-honored techniques and honest materials you can trust. Modern Sustainability, it feels good.”
The tradition is celebrated in Munich every year in a holiday known as Oktoberfest. The celebration consists of large tents filled with Biergarten tables where thousands of people celebrate through food, laughter, and dancing.

How It’s Made: The Reclaimed Wood Factory at etúHome
EtúHome’s reclaimed wood factory employs expert craftsmen to source salvaged wood from 19th-century buildings scheduled for demolition around Hungary.
The Process
Salvaged wood of all kinds arrives to the factory in truckloads ready to begin the cleaning process. They first ensure all hardware and nails are removed, carefully inspecting each piece entirely. This is one of the most thrilling phases in the process, as you can literally see these 19th-century buildings come to life, envisioning the beams in their glory days.
The following phases of the construction process calls for highly trained machine operators as it is incredibly technical. The reclaimed beams are measured and cut specifically to fit in their state of the art machinery that clean and slice the wood into thin planks. They then take these newly cleaned wood planks and fuse them together in a special heat process. After they have created large boards, another specialist oversees the cutting of the boards into the specific products that are slated for production that day. The carpenters are skillfully trained in ensuring minimal waste during this process, an important part of their sustainable brand concept.
Each item is sanded by hand, guaranteeing the perfect finish while remaining true to the beauty of the wood grain. Using a customized wax and oil blend, it gives the wood a beautiful ‘already used’ patina. Because of their hand-finished nature, the tables will only get better looking with time and use.
The Purpose: Community, Sustainability, Quality
The reason we now carry these beautiful, timeless tables at The Mercantile and the reason etúHome designs them comes from their core purposes of community, sustainability, and quality.
For over a decade, etúHOME has carefully curated a collection of products that are best enjoyed around food, wine, friends and family. The Biergarten table is no exception. Capturing the spirit of the quintessential European lifestyle, these tables inspire intimacy and community.
Each table is handcrafted from sustainable materials in order to be truly authentic. EtúHome’s eye for detail extends to the method in which they create every table with the utmost attention to quality and craftsmanship. While utilizing precision equipment in their factory, each new piece is finished by hand in old-world style, ensuring a piece of the past resonates with future generations. Every table tells the story of a past era, each unique in its artisanal craftsmanship. The sourcing efforts are truly the heart and soul of the company. Utilizing 19th-century timber, recycled glass and sustainably harvested beams to craft all of their products. As buildings in and around Budapest fall into demolition, etúHome has been able to salvage the beams used to support them. They find beauty in extending resources and giving materials a second life. Additionally, their thoughts go beyond the materials they utilize. Sharing The Mercantile’s belief that sustainability should extend beyond the product’s core materials all the way to the factory where the product is made; ensuring a safe environment, a fair living wage, and the contribution to a prosperous and healthy community.
For The Mercantile and etúHome, quality means ethically sourcing good materials and then using them in a responsible manner to craft pieces. With a focus on meeting the highest standards in regard to health and safety, while still maintaining sustainable practices. By properly procuring their materials, etúHome is able to create classically rooted pieces without negatively impacting the environment. Additionally, each piece is finished by hand with eco-friendly, plant-based beeswax and mineral oil elements.
