Pivoting: Why Brittany’s Next 5 Years Won’t Look Like the Last

Pivoting: Why Brittany’s Next 5 Years Won’t Look Like the Last

Life, Interior Design & The Mercantile

Five years ago on a warm day in January, in the back booth at our local Waffle House, Michael and I made a five-year business plan. It’s not been easy. In fact, the learning curve that came with three children and three businesses has been huge. Figuring out how to fit everything into a day was, and is quite a task. Some days we temporarily lose a kid or two, most days we completely forget to eat, and other days I count success by having put on makeup.

Still, there are times when we shock ourselves; two such moments happened last week. The first moment was when Michael won an attendance award at his office for making the most weekly company meetings, and the second moment happened when I was asked to be Vice-Chair of ChristmasVille 2020. Having it together is an illusion, one that we grasp at…

As the first five years of our business plan have come to an end, we are ready to pivot and make some changes to better our company. Not only did we survive, but we also accomplished a heck of a lot more than we thought we ever could. One of our greatest business-joys is the store; The Mercantile has grown so quickly and so well–and we are extremely thankful!

Brittany Kelly, owner & Interior Designer

Our focus will shift a bit as we have made the difficult decision to scale back on remodeling so that we can focus on interior design, real estate, community outreach, the store, and most importantly, our three daughters.

The hardest lesson we learned the most over these past few years is to trust our gut! I think it is so important to listen to your gut when it says to slow down, smell the roses and do what makes you happy.

OUR HAPPY PLACE

Our happy place is supporting our community through the store and our family. Michael and I feel that we can best support our community and our family by building a legacy for our daughters at The Mercantile. Michael will continue to sell real estate as he also serves on the Rock Hill Schools Education Foundation Board and help at the store, while I continue in the role of merchandising and purchasing for the store, take on interior design consultations by appointment at The Mercantile, and step into the position of Vice-Chair of ChristmasVille 2020.

Thank you for such an amazing five years. Cheers to the next five!
